Lancaster Health Center launched their own Project Lazarus, a bus that goes out into the community to help those struggling with addiction and provides a variety of free resources to individuals. Carmella DiSomma, Director of Project Lazarus, is recognizing a trend with individuals not feeling they can speak out at meetings if they are on Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT). The process of using medications to get sober is often called maintenance, which creates a stigma that a person isn't truly in recovery. Project Lazarus supports all pathways to recovery which helps to destigmatize substance use disorders in the community. Due to this discovery, Carmella DiSomma will now be hosting meetings in the area for those who are looking to use MAT to start their recovery process. The first meeting has already occurred, and we are thankful for individuals like Carmella continuing to fight this epidemic!
