2019 Pennsylvania Insurer Marketplace Plan Preview Webinars

PACHC will be hosting two webinars to preview the 2019 PA Health Insurance Marketplace Plans on Wednesday, Oct.17 and Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018.  These webinars will provide enrollment assisters with information on individual plan design offerings for the upcoming enrollment period which begins on Nov. 1, 2018 and runs through Dec.15, 2018. Special Enrollment Period - Victims of Hurricane Florence

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has made a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) available for certain individuals seeking health plans offered through the Marketplace. This gives people impacted by the hurricane the opportunity to change their health coverage on the Marketplace immediately if eligible for the SEP.  Consumers have up to 60 days from the end of the FEMA emergency designated incident period to select a new qualified health plan (QHP). For more information, read the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight notice.

Webinar: Helping Consumers Navigate the Plan Selection Process

The Right Fit: Helping Consumers Navigate the Plan Selection Process, will be offered Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 10:00 - 11:30 am. This webinar will strengthen enrollment assisters' understanding of private insurance and provide best practices for supporting consumers in the plan selection process.  The presentation includes an in-depth overview of qualified health plans (QHPs), guidance on how to talk to consumers about complicated insurance terms, and the latest trends in QHPs offered in the Marketplace.  Additionally, it will highlight innovative strategies for helping consumers identify their priorities and find the plan that best meets their needs.  The session concludes with a live, step-by-step demonstration on how these strategies can be applied when comparing plans on Healthcare.gov, featuring sample consumer scenarios and actual Marketplace plans from across Pennsylvania. Register Here.

Congratulations to PACHC's Outreach & Enrollment Team

This week, Tia Whitaker, statewide director for outreach & enrollment and Lucy Molina, outreach and enrollment coordinator for PACHC's Navigator Hub, both successfully completed the coursework and exam to be recertified as federal Marketplace Navigators. The certification is a prerequisite to assisting consumers in evaluating health insurance options to find the most affordable coverage that meets the consumer's needs. Health center-based enrollment assisters are reminded that they must complete Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) training prior to helping consumers. CMS has released the 2018-2019 Navigator Training through the MLMS Learning Portal. Step-by-step instructions are available on the Technical Assistance Resource tab of the Health Insurance Marketplace Information site to assist you with creating an account, logging in and completing the training. If you would like to become a Navigator, please contact Tia Whitaker, statewide director, outreach and enrollment. Upon completion of the training, forward a copy of your certificate to Lucy Molina, outreach and enrollment coordinator. Remember - all Navigators and Certified Application Counselors (CACs) assisting consumers must also be registered and fingerprinted with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department before providing assistance to consumers. Click here to begin the registration process.
