MAT One Way - But Not Only Way - to Use SUD/MH Funding

Health centers across the commonwealth--and across the country--are working with their boards, staffs and communities to determine the best way to be part of the solution to the opioid epidemic. Health centers now have some financial support available through HRSA to fold services to address substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health into the fabric of care they offer. While many health centers have decided to offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) because if they don't step up and do so, there are no alternatives in the communities they serve or because they see it as an integral component of comprehensive primary care services, it is important to be aware that the current HRSA funding opportunity does not limit a health center's SUD response to MAT. Other options for the funding include:

  • Collaborative Care Model
  • Patient Centered Medical Home
  • Medicaid Health Homes
  • Four Quadrant Model
  • Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
  • Integration of Mental Health, Substance Use, and Primary Care Services
  • Improving Mood-Promoting Access to Collaborative Treatment (IMPACT)
  • Screening, Brief Interventions, Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
  • Other (if selected, details must be provided in Project Narrative)
