Funding Cliff Press Conference Call

Today, we held a statewide press conference call to discuss the implications of the health center funding cliff.  Speakers presenting on the call were: Dr. Mary Kelleher, Berks Community Health Center ; Dr. George Garrow, Primary Health Network ; Hilda Shirk, SouthEast Lancaster Health Services ; George Barton, Hyndman Area Health Center ; and Cheri Rinehart.  The presentation included the impact a loss of funding would have on health centers and the communities they serve.  Impact on access, chronic disease management, costs and the economy was discussed as was the need for speedy Congressional action. Approximately 10 media outlets were present on the call, and left with information necessary to raise awareness of this critical issue.  Following the call, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on legislation to extend health center funding.
